PressPrimer Quiz 3.0 Premium Updates

Version 3.0 updates are now available for the Educator, School, and Enterprise add-ons for PressPrimer Quiz. These releases align with the introduction of PressPrimer Quiz 3.0, and they showcase where a lot of the behind-the-scenes changes in the free plugin really pay off.

Here’s what’s new across all three tiers.

Teach from the front end

Where version 3.0 of the free plugin introduced a student dashboard in the front end, Educator 3.0 moves instructor work out of the WordPress admin and onto regular pages on your WordPress site. Students gain a more intuitive view of assigned quizzes, and educators can now manage groups as well as create and track assignments from their own dashboard. The tools are the same as what you’re used to in /wp-admin/, just ported to the front end and restyled to match your PressPrimer appearance settings. Basic reporting is available in the initial launch of 3.0, then we’ll move the rest of the instructor-focused reports in 3.1.

To supplement the new front-end options, Educator also includes a new tool to restrict student and teacher access to /wp-admin/. When the settings are enabled, the WordPress admin bar is hidden and users with Teacher and student-related roles are blocked from accessing /wp-admin/ pages. (Administrators aren’t affected.)

LearnDash groups integration

This was a big one behind the scenes, but there’s a new group model that allows PressPrimer Quiz to extend support to other LMS group systems instead of just relying on what we natively support. In 3.0, this means that LearnDash sites can choose between using PressPrimer groups or LearnDash groups to manage students. If sites choose LearnDash, that means all group management happens on the LearnDash side. Reports have all been updated to add support for LearnDash groups in drop-downs, and we follow the LearnDash permissions model. Quiz assignments also work with LearnDash groups.

WP Fusion integration

To make better use of the email address capture added to the free plugin for marketing use, the School add-on offers a new WP Fusion integration. This means that when guest users submit an email address (and opt in to receiving communications), a contact can created in a CRM, tags assigned to that contact, and the contact added to a mailing list. Both WP Fusion Lite and Pro are fully supported, allowing you to connect PressPrimer Quiz to over 60 CRMs at no extra cost. Tags and lists can be set both globally and on a per-quiz basis. (Note that WP Fusion must be set up and connected to a CRM before list and tag options will become available.)

LifterLMS quiz import

Following the release of our LearnDash quiz importer, the School add-on now supports importing quizzes directly from LifterLMS. If you’re moving some of your assessments from Lifter to PressPrimer, just navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Import quizzes, choose which quizzes to migrate, and click a button to instantly complete the migration. We support the basic LifterLMS question types, including support for picture-choice questions that we import as image answers.

Better spaced repetition

There are two major changes to the spaced repetition system in 3.0:

1. Improved efficiency. In early versions, every spaced repetition review created a new quiz, which built up over time and cluttered quiz lists. In 3.0, we now use a single review quiz per student, then swap questions when a new quiz is needed. For existing users of spaced repetition tools, there’s a one-time cleanup tool to move things over.
2. Support for FSRS. The previous spaced repetition model used SM-2 in the background, while the latest release adds optional support for FSRS (the Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler). This model is growing in popularity in major study tools and it tends to be more accurate for predicting when students are about to forget something.

You can choose the system most appropriate for your site from PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Spaced Repetition.

Integrity analytics

As a complement to the existing proctoring tools, Enterprise 3.0 adds a new, quieter approach that monitors quizzes for statistically unusual patterns that might indicate cheating attempts. When enabled at the site or quiz level, four integrity detectors run behind the scenes to watch for improbably fast correct answers, unusual answer similarity between attempts, device sharing, and concurrent sessions. Flagged attempts appear in a new Integrity Review report so that educators can review suspicious quiz attempts in case they want to investigate further.

Integrity flags never change scores, and IP addresses are never collected. They are meant to inform educators without raising privacy concerns or automating grading overrides.

Other updates

There’s a lot more that’s included in 3.0 plugins beyond what’s listed above. Here are a few other highlights:

• Broader audit coverage in Enterprise to capture some of the new events in 3.0, like progress resets, integrity flag reviews, and quiz template changes.
• A “Proctored Exam” quiz template that sets up a locked-down, timed exam with strict monitoring.
• Front-end white-label support for the new dashboard shortcode/block.
