PressPrimer Quiz 2.1: Fine-Tune Your Quizzes

We’re thrilled to introduce version 2.1 of PressPrimer Quiz, now available for download on WordPress.org. This update is all about giving quiz creators more control over how quizzes look and behave, all without touching any code. This update to our free quiz plugin unlocks lots of new opportunities to customize the front-end quiz experience.

Here’s what’s new.

Visual Appearance Controls

In version 2.0, we extended our three quiz themes with a Condensed display mode. In 2.1, we take this even further with fine-grained controls to configure the exact appearance of your quizzes, all without having to touch any CSS. This is what you’ll now see in PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Appearance:

If you remember how settings were laid out in version 2.0, you’ll notice that the controls are now nested inside accordion blocks so that it’s easier to make changes and see them applied immediately in the preview at the top of the page. There’s no longer a need to scroll up to see how your changes will look in the front end.

These are the new settings for visual controls:

1. Line height: Control the spacing between lines of text in questions and answers.
2. Answer option spacing: Adjust the padding around each answer.
3. Question spacing: Set the gap between questions when you display multiple questions per page.
4. Container max width: Limit the overall width of the quiz container.

All four new sliders default to the values that PressPrimer Quiz has always used for Standard and Condense modes, so updating to version 2.1 won’t change how your quizzes look.

Show and Hide Quiz Elements

One of the most common requests we’ve received is to add the ability to control exactly what’s shown on the quiz start and results pages. Version 2.1 makes these pages very customizable, with 12 new display attributes that can be set for both the quiz block and the [ppq_quiz] shortcode.

On the Start page, you can now show or hide:

• Quiz description
• Question count
• Quiz type
• Time limit
• Passing percentage
• Attempt history

As for the Results page, you can show or hide:

• Score display
• Pass/fail status
• Time spent
• Category breakdown
• Question review section
• Retake button

In the block editor, these appear as toggles in the block’s sidebar. Everything is on by default, so existing quizzes aren’t affected. This is what it looks like:

If you’re using shortcodes, the same controls are available as attributes. Here’s a shortcode example of all the new settings:

A Small Celebration

While not a new feature you can use, the free version now has a small celebration notice after your site reaches 100 completed quiz attempts. It’s our way of marking a milestone and asking for feedback. If you’re enjoying the plugin, it invites you to leave a review, and if not, it will put you in touch with our support team. It only shows up for administrators, only on PressPrimer Quiz pages in /wp-admin/, and it can be permanently dismissed, so it won’t get in your way.

The 2.1 releases of our premium add-ons will be out soon, and they include a huge array of new features, with the highlights including LearnDash quiz import, proctoring tools, and lots of new reports (including pre-test vs. post-test comparisons!).
