Here's How It Works

PressPrimer Certificate covers the whole certification lifecycle: design the certificate, award it automatically, deliver it to the learner, and let anyone verify it. Here’s a closer look at each part.

DESIGN

A Designer That Gets Out of Your Way

Every certificate starts from a template. Pick one of six starter designs, available in Letter and A4, and it opens on an interactive canvas with your site name, logo, and brand colors. Drag, resize, and arrange text, images, signatures, shapes, QR codes, and backgrounds, with alignment and spacing tools, smart guides, and sample values to make the work easier.

What you see is genuinely what learners get. The canvas renders at real page dimensions, six open-license font families are bundled, and a live preview shows the actual PDF before you publish.

AWARD

Certificates That Award Themselves

In the template’s Award tab, choose what earns the certificate: passing a PressPrimer Quiz at a score you set, a passing PressPrimer Assignment grade, or completing a course, lesson, topic, or quiz in your favorite LMS. Point a trigger at one course or at any of them, so a single template can cover everything.

Display names keep everything clear. Build a name from merge fields, like the title of the course that was completed, and every certificate is named after what earned it. Manual awarding is always available too, with recipient search, a backdatable earned date, and an optional expiry.

Certificate Triggers

VERIFY

Proof Anyone Can Check

Every certificate carries a unique, non-guessable credential ID and can include a QR code linking to a public verification page on your own site. Scanning the code or typing in the ID shows whether the credential is valid, revoked, or expired, along with the recipient’s name, what it was awarded for, and the date. No account is needed to check.

On the PDF itself, the QR code and credential ID are clickable links to the verification page, so digital copies verify with a single click.

Verify certificates

DELIVER

Easy Certificate Access

The moment a certificate is earned, it lands in the learner’s inbox as a print-ready PDF, under a subject line that can name the exact course they completed. Every certificate also gets its own shareable view page where anyone can see the certificate and download the PDF.

Add a My Certificates page with the included block or shortcode and learners get one place to see everything they have earned, with status filters, sorting, and verify and download links.

Certificate List

MANAGE

Run It Like a Registrar

The dashboard keeps the whole operation visible: certificate counts, an awarded-over-time chart, recent activity, and quick actions. The certificates screen filters by template, status, and source, with one-click actions to resend an email, revoke with an optional reason, reinstate, or delete test data.

Getting started is guided from the first click. A built-in setup tour walks you from your first template to your first awarded certificate in about five minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and they’re designed to work together. Passing a quiz at a score threshold and earning a passing grade on an assignment are both built-in award triggers, each with its own merge fields. That means a certificate can display the actual score or grade a learner earned, pulled directly from the quiz or assignment record.

It’s genuinely free and not locked down. Unlimited templates, unlimited certificates, the full designer, every award trigger, public verification, and email delivery are all included in the free plugin on WordPress.org. Premium add-ons will extend it with features like bulk certificate generation and custom fonts, but the free plugin is fully functional on its own.

No. PressPrimer Certificate works on any WordPress site. You can design certificates and award them manually to any user with no other plugins installed. When PressPrimer Quiz, PressPrimer Assignment, LearnDash, LifterLMS, Tutor LMS, or LearnPress is detected, automatic award triggers for that plugin appear on their own.

Yes. Every trigger’s source picker includes an “any” option, so a single template can award for any course, any quiz, or any assignment. Merge fields fill in from whichever one the learner actually completed, and a display name built from merge fields keeps every certificate clearly labeled.

Yes. When LearnDash is installed, you can award a certificate on course, lesson, topic, or quiz completion, and merge fields for the course details become available in the designer.

Every certificate can include a unique credential ID and a QR code. Scanning the code or typing the ID into the verification page on your site shows whether the credential is valid, revoked, or expired, along with the recipient’s name, what it was awarded for, and the date it was earned. Anyone can check a certificate; no account is needed.

Nothing changes for certificates that have already been earned. Each certificate saves its design and its data at the moment it is awarded, so it always looks exactly the way it did on the day the learner received it. Template edits only affect certificates awarded afterward.

Yes, and both are included free. Set a validity period in days, months, or years, pick a fixed expiry date, or let certificates last forever. You can revoke any certificate with an optional reason and reinstate it later if needed, and the verification page always reflects the current status.
