PressPrimer Assignment 2.0: LifterLMS and LearnPress

Version 2.0 of PressPrimer Assignment is now available on WordPress.org! This is a big release for the free plugin, adding two new LMS integrations and laying the groundwork for the premium add-ons that we’re also launching today.

Here’s what’s new.

LifterLMS integration

The first release of PressPrimer Assignment introduced support for LearnDash and Tutor LMS, and in 2.0 we’re extending support to LifterLMS. The new integration (as with all of our LMS integrations) is included in the free plugin, so no upgrade is required.

PressPrimer Assignment detects LifterLMS automatically and adds a metabox to the lesson editor that allows assignment mapping. When an assignment is selected, it will automatically show up on the lesson page. If the option to Require passing grade to complete lesson is checked, then the Assignment plugin will take over completion controls and only allow the user to complete the lesson and advance when an assignment is graded and awarded a passing grade.

Students will have to wait for instructors to grade their submission before they can move forward. When that happens, the completion happens automatically, so when students visit the course again after the submission has been returned, they will see the lesson status updated.

The implementation is the same as mapping quizzes in PressPrimer Quiz to LifterLMS lessons. If you use both plugins, you will see two metaboxes on lesson edit pages, one for mapping assignments and the other for mapping quizzes.

LearnPress integration

Version 2.0 of PressPrimer Assignment adds LearnPress as our fourth supported LMS plugin. Just like LifterLMS, the entire integration is included in the free plugin.

The integration adds a metabox to the lesson editor for LearnPress. When PressPrimer Assignment is active, the metabox shown below is added to lesson edit pages. When an assignment is selected, it is automatically added to the lesson page for students.

With LifterLMS and LearnPress joining LearnDash and Tutor LMS, PressPrimer Assignment now covers the four major LMS platforms for WordPress. If you’re using any of them, you can drop PressPrimer Assignment into your existing course structure and start using its assignment system in minutes.

Support for premium add-ons

Beyond the new integrations, some fixes, and some quality-of-life improvements, PressPrimer Assignment 2.0 adds the infrastructure that’s needed for our new premium add-ons. Under the hood, we’ve added a full set of action hooks, filters, and capabilities that our new plugins and others can hook into. It opens up many new paths for developers to extend PressPrimer Assignment however they might want.

The new add-ons are launching alongside this release and are covered in a separate blog post. We’re really excited about the new capabilities, as they add features that simply aren’t available elsewhere in WordPress or even at this price point for any platform. Watch for features like a rubric system, AI-assisted grading, automated proofreading, and more.
