Premium Add-ons 2.1: Reports, Proctoring, and LearnDash Import

Following the recent release of PressPrimer Quiz 2.1, updates are now also available for the Educator, School, and Enterprise add-ons. All three tiers get significant new features, and in this post, we’ll explore the highlights.

Quiz Detail Report

The Educator add-on includes a new Quiz Detail Report that offers a comprehensive breakdown of how every quiz is performing. The free plugin includes a Quiz Performance report that provides basic stats for all quizzes, but PressPrimer Quiz needed a better way to perform in-depth analysis for specific quizzes. This is what the new report looks like (and it’s a big one, so you’ll need to scroll!):

Yes, it’s a really big report, but it’s a great way to really understand what’s happening with your quizzes. Here’s everything it includes:

• Summary-level stats, including score data, time data, and attempt data
• A score distribution chart
• A pass/fail breakdown
• A category performance chart
• Basic question analysis (since full details are available in the Question Quality report)
• Time per question records, so you can identify which questions students answer most and least quickly
• Score and attempt trends over time

Charts also include all data in tables, both for accessibility and so you can easily see and copy specific numbers out.

Pre/Post Analysis

Yes, this critical feature, missing from nearly all quiz plugins in WordPress, helps you compare results between quizzes. Want to see if users score better on a quiz taken after a course than before it so you can measure how much someone learned from going through the course? Now you can. But we didn’t stop there. Beyond basic pre-test and post-test comparisons, you can use PressPrimer Quiz reports to compare any two quizzes and any two attempts of the same quiz. For quizzes that students take from question banks, now you can actually see if users perform better on their third or fourth attempt compared to their first attempt.

Here’s what the new Pre/Post Analysis report looks like:

This one has a score summary, score comparison, improvement distribution, category comparison, and student details. Phew! As for the “Linked Pairs” report you might notice, there’s a new feature that allows you to map a pre-test to a quiz in the quiz settings. By doing so, students also get a nice report when they complete the post-test that compares their post-test results to their pre-test score.

LearnDash Quiz Import

Moving on to new features in the School add-on, there’s a robust new import tool that will allow you to copy your LearnDash quizzes (including questions and most settings) to PressPrimer Quiz. There are a few ways to run the import, including for individual quizzes right from the LearnDash LMS > Quizzes page in /wp-admin/. For bulk import, visit PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Import Quizzes. Here’s what the new page looks like:

The table will list all LearnDash quizzes, show you how many questions can be imported (only Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer, and True/False are supported), and allow instant import into PressPrimer Quiz. Following the import, you’ll get a summary of the results.

Group Performance

Also new in the School add-on is a new Group Performance report with two views. The comparison view lets you select a quiz and compare groups side by side. Admins will see all groups, whereas teachers will only see groups that they belong to. Here’s the new report:

In the group listing at the bottom, you can access yet another report showing the individual quiz performance for all group members by clicking the row for the associated group.

The group detail view, which you can access by selecting a group in the drop-down in the upper right, shows you a single group’s performance. A Weekly Trend chart tracks group performance over the last few weeks, and a Member Results table lists students along with their best score, latest score, and attempt count. Here’s what it looks like:

Basic Proctoring

Over in the Enterprise add-on, version 2.1 adds a single new feature, but it’s huge: non-invasive proctoring. It provides a way to reduce cheating and flag users who might be trying to cheat.

Here’s what the new settings enable:

We’ll bet you’ve never seen anything like this in a WordPress quiz plugin before! There are three modes available, which can be overridden at the individual quiz level:

1. Off: No monitoring. Use this for practice quizzes and low-stakes assessments.
2. Monitor: Log incidents silently. Students won’t be aware that they’re being monitored.
3. Strict: Log incidents and show warnings to students. If they leave the quiz tab, they’ll be reminded about the behavior, with notices like, “You have left the quiz tab. This has been recorded.”

The basic proctoring tools now available in Enterprise include monitoring when students switch away from the quiz tab, tracking time away from the quiz tab, and forcing a full-screen mode for quizzes (so users can’t switch to other windows or tabs to look things up or chat with other students). Since the full-screen mode only works reliably on desktop, if it is something you need to force, there’s also a new setting that blocks users from taking the quiz on mobile. They will be warned that they must use a desktop or laptop to complete the quiz.

And don’t worry, the proctoring JavaScript is very lightweight. It has event listeners only, no polling, and it only loads when proctoring is active for a given quiz.

Updating

If you’re already running the add-ons, update through your WordPress dashboard. Please note that there are heavy dependencies in each plugin now on code in lower-tier plugins, so if you want to run Enterprise 2.1 (for example), you must be running 2.1 versions of PressPrimer Quiz, Educator, and School. (Yes, all of this is detected automatically and you will be reminded of this in the plugins, but we wanted to mention it here too.)
