Quiz templates let you apply a complete set of quiz settings in one click. Instead of configuring two dozen settings by hand every time you build a quiz (or cloning an existing quiz), you apply a template and every included setting is filled in at once. Templates capture settings only; they never include questions, quiz content, or the quiz title.
Built-in Presets
Three presets are included with the plugin:
Exam Simulation
A locked-down timed exam: no skipping, no backward navigation, no resume, one attempt, answers never shown, randomized question and answer order, and one question per page. Exam Simulation deliberately does not set a time limit for you. After applying it, you will see a reminder to set one that suits your exam.
Open Practice
Relaxed practice: untimed, unlimited attempts, free navigation with skipping and backward movement allowed, resume enabled, and answers shown after each submission. The preset also marks the quiz as a practice quiz, so attempts are badged as practice and excluded from grade reports and averages. See Practice Mode.
Standard Graded
A graded quiz on a single page: three attempts allowed, free navigation, and answers revealed after completion.
Applying a Template
- Edit a quiz and go to the Settings tab.
- Click Apply template and choose a preset or one of your saved templates.
- Review the change preview, which lists each setting that will change along with its current and new value.
- Confirm to fill the settings into the editor.
- Save the quiz.
Applying a template only fills in the editor. Nothing is saved until you save the quiz, so you can review the result, adjust anything you like, or discard the changes by leaving without saving.
If a template includes settings that belong to a premium add-on you do not have active, those settings are skipped and everything else applies normally.
Saving Your Own Templates
Any quiz’s current settings can become a template. In the quiz editor’s Settings tab, click Save as template, give it a name and an optional description, and save. The template is then available to apply to any quiz on the site.
To update an existing template, configure a quiz the way you want, then save it as a template again and remove the old one.
Managing Templates
Saved templates are managed under PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Templates. From here you can review each template and delete templates you no longer need. The built-in presets cannot be deleted.
Default Template for New Quizzes
The Templates tab also includes a Default template for new quizzes setting. When set, every newly created quiz starts with that template’s settings already applied. You can still change any setting on the new quiz afterward.
Notes
- Templates are a one-time copy. Editing a template later does not change quizzes it was previously applied to.
- Templates store settings only. Questions, rules, and quiz content are never part of a template.
