Practice Mode lets students take a quiz as many times as they want, untimed, with immediate feedback, no matter how the quiz is otherwise configured. Practice attempts are clearly badged and are excluded from grade reports and averages, so a quiz can be used for low-stakes practice without polluting its statistics.
Enabling Practice Mode
- Edit a quiz and go to the Settings tab.
- Turn on Practice Quiz.
- Save the quiz.
While a quiz is a practice quiz, settings that no longer apply (such as the time limit and attempt limits) show a note reading “Not used while this is a practice quiz — your setting is kept.” Nothing you configured is changed or lost. Turn the Practice Quiz toggle off and the quiz goes right back to behaving exactly as it did before, with all of its original settings.
What Changes for Students
- Unlimited attempts: Maximum attempt counts and delays between attempts are not enforced.
- No timer: Practice attempts are always untimed, even on quizzes configured with a time limit.
- Immediate feedback: Practice attempts run tutorial-style, with answers checked as students go.
- A visible badge: A Practice badge appears on the quiz, on the results page, and next to practice attempts in attempt lists, so there is never confusion about whether an attempt counted.
Practice Mode works for guests as well as signed-in students on quizzes that allow guest attempts.
Reporting Behavior
Practice attempts are excluded from the aggregate metrics on the Reports page and from grade-bearing reports, so averages, pass rates, and question statistics reflect real attempts only. Attempt lists in both wp-admin and the front-end My Results screen still show practice attempts, badged, with a filter to show or hide them.
Each attempt keeps the mode it was taken under. If a quiz collected graded attempts before being switched to practice (or the other way around), the earlier attempts keep counting the way they originally did, and reports note when a quiz’s history contains both kinds.
