Question banks are collections of questions that are organized for efficient quiz creation and management. They are, essentially, containers that hold questions. Every question in PressPrimer quiz can belong to one or more banks (or none at all), and every bank can contain as many questions as you want. Our banks are designed to handle extremely large data sets, so if you want banks of tens of thousands of questions, that’s no problem.

Why Use Question Banks?

Question banks make quiz management easier by:

• Allowing you to link themed questions to quizzes in bulk instead of by individual question.
• Organizing questions logically for easy browsing.
• Allowing students to create their own quizzes from assigned banks (coming soon!).

Creating a Question Bank

To create a question bank, perform the following:

1. Navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Question Banks in /wp-admin/.
2. Click Add New.
3. Add a Name for your bank. This field is mandatory, and it’s what other users will see as the title for your question bank.
4. Add a Description if you want to include one. Descriptions are shown next to the title in the list of banks.
5. Set the Visibility. Private question banks mean only you and other administrators can see and use them in quizzes. Shared banks allow other authorized users to see and use them in quizzes (these capabilities will be more important in future plugin releases).

Managing Bank Questions

To see or add items to a question bank:

1. Visit PressPrimer Quiz > Question Banks in /wp-admin/.
2. Click the bank name or hover over it and click Questions. At the top of the page, you’ll see the title and description you added, as well as the total number of questions.

3. There are 2 ways to add questions to a bank:
   • Add your existing questions to the bank manually.
   • Generate new questions using OpenAI.
4. If you choose to generate questions with AI (you must have an OpenAI API key registered in PressPrimer Quiz > Settings first), perform the following:
   • Choose whether you want to paste your source content in or upload a file.
   • If you paste content in, paste it into the Source Content field in the Paste Text tab. Pasted content is limited to 250,000 characters.
   • If you want to upload a PDF or Word file instead, choose the Upload file tab. Drag your file into the upload area or click to navigate to it. Please note that some PDF files can be difficult to extract text from, especially if they’re image heavy or have custom fonts, so generally you are likely to have better results with pasted text or Word documents. The plugin will provide guidance if the PDF file has text that’s difficult to extract.
   • Choose the quantity and types of questions you want to generate in the Generation Parameters tab.
   • When you’re ready to have AI generate questions, click Generate Questions. Note that this process can be very slow, often taking several minutes if you submit a large volume of content and request a lot of questions. In some cases you may need to wait for up to 10 minutes.
   • Once questions are generated, you can edit them and choose which ones to include in the question bank and which generated questions to discard. Add whichever ones you want to the bank.
5. To add existing questions to the question bank:
   • Click Add Existing Questions.
   • At the top of the section is a list of the questions you created most recently. You can add questions from here and/or continue to Search for Questions.
   • To locate questions to add to the bank, use the search filters and fields to define your criteria and then click Search Questions.
   • In the list of questions that’s returned, choose which to add to your bank.

Removing Questions from a Bank

1. From the question bank’s Questions page, scroll down to find the questions you want to remove.
2. Click Remove from Bank.

Tips & Troubleshooting

• Questions can be in multiple banks, so adding a question from a bank doesn’t remove it from other banks.
• Administrators can manage all banks.
• If a dynamic quiz reports that there aren’t enough questions, make sure that linked banks have enough questions and that the questions match any filter rules you’re using.
