PressPrimer Quiz can generate new questions with AI using your choice of provider. Both OpenAI and Anthropic (Claude) are supported, and each requires its own API key.

For OpenAI, visit the OpenAI API Key page in your account and generate a new API key. Please note that this is different than ChatGPT and a ChatGPT account won’t automatically give you access to the OpenAI API. You must set up an API account, including adding billing information and funding your account with at least $10 to start.

For Anthropic, visit the API Keys page in the Anthropic Console and generate a new API key. As with OpenAI, this is different than a consumer Claude account. You must set up API access in the Anthropic Console, including billing.

AI Provider Setup

Once you have an API key to use, visit PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Integrations in /wp-admin/ of your WordPress site. At the top of the page, you’ll see the AI Providers section with an entry for each supported provider.

Enter your API key in the field for your chosen provider, then click Save Key. Once the key has been validated, you can choose a Preferred Model for that provider. If you configure more than one provider, select which one is active; the active provider is used for all AI features. Click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page to apply your changes.

API keys are stored once for the site and shared by all users who generate questions. If you saved a key in an earlier version of the plugin, it carries over automatically.

Generating Questions

New questions can be generated in bulk from a new or existing Question Bank.

To generate questions with AI:

1. Visit PressPrimer Quiz > Question Banks in /wp-admin/.
2. Click the bank name or hover over it and click Questions. At the top of the page, you’ll see the title and description you added, as well as the total number of questions.

3. In the Generate with AI tab, choose whether you want to paste your source content in or upload a file.
4. If you paste content in, paste it into the Source Content field in the Paste Text tab. Pasted content is limited to 250,000 characters.
5. If you want to upload a PDF or Word file instead, choose the Upload file tab. Drag your file into the upload area or click to navigate to it. Please note that some PDF files can be difficult to extract text from, especially if they’re image heavy or have custom fonts, so generally you are likely to have better results with pasted text or Word documents. The plugin will provide guidance if the PDF file has text that’s difficult to extract.

6. Choose the quantity and types of questions you want to generate in the Generation Parameters tab.
7. When you’re ready to have AI generate questions, click Generate Questions. Note that this process can be very slow, often taking several minutes if you submit a large volume of content and request a lot of questions. In some cases you may need to wait for up to 10 minutes.
8. Once questions are generated, you can edit them and choose which ones to include in the question bank and which generated questions to discard. Add whichever ones you want to the bank.
