The Settings page lets you configure global defaults, email notifications, advanced options, and more. These settings apply site-wide and serve as the default for new quizzes.
To access PressPrimer settings, sign in as an administrator and visit PressPrimer Quiz > Settings. The settings tabs that are displayed depend on which add-on plugins you have installed. The settings described below are for the base PressPrimer Quiz plugins only; other settings are explained in their respective plugin articles.
General Settings
The Quiz Defaults allow you to choose settings for new quizzes. Anything set here can be overridden at the quiz level.
The Scoring section sets the site-wide default for how multiple-answer questions are scored. The four modes are Right Minus Wrong (the default), Partial Credit, Partial Credit No Wrong Answers, and All or Nothing. Any quiz set to use the site default will use whatever you choose here, while quizzes with their own scoring mode set will keep their override. See Creating a Quiz for a description of each mode.
The Dashboard Page setting tells the plugin which page hosts the front-end dashboard, where students can review their results. Select an existing page or click Create page for me to have one created and selected automatically. See The Front-End Dashboard for details.
The Enable math notation (LaTeX) setting turns on math rendering in questions and answers. It is off by default. See Adding Math and Formulas to Quizzes for how to write math notation.
The Guest Email Consent section adds an optional marketing consent checkbox to the guest email form shown to logged-out quiz takers. The checkbox is unchecked by default, never blocks starting a quiz, and the label text can be customized. If your site has a Privacy Policy page set under Settings > Privacy in WordPress, a link to it is shown next to the checkbox. Guest quiz data is also covered by the WordPress personal data export and erase tools under Tools > Export Personal Data and Tools > Erase Personal Data, using the guest’s email address.
Appearance
The Appearance tab allows you to choose the theme for your quizzes and override the fonts, colors, and layouts to fit your site aesthetic. Note that changes here cannot be overridden at the quiz level; any settings here apply to all quizzes for consistency. There is a preview area at the top of the page to test your changes before you apply them.
When users complete quizzes, they have the option to send themselves a copy of their results by email (or administrators can set quizzes to always send results by email). This settings tab allows emails to be styled and the content (including subject and body) updated, with click-to-copy tokens for dynamic values such as the student’s name, score, and a per-question recap via the {answers_summary} token. The tab also includes an Email Footer setting for replacing the default footer line with your own text, and a Test Email section for previewing your changes.

Integrations
All settings for plugins and apps that you integrate your PressPrimer Quiz install with are managed from this tab. The AI Providers section is where you set up AI for question generation and other AI support. Both OpenAI and Anthropic (Claude) are supported. Enter an API key for either provider (or both), choose which provider is active, and pick a preferred model for each. Keys are saved once for the site and used for requests from all users. To ensure your API key doesn’t trigger excess usage, requests are limited to 100 per hour across all site users. See AI Question Generation for full setup steps.
For plugin integrations, most are listed further down the page with details about the integration available when the plugins are detected. If plugin-specific settings are available, they will be shown in this section.
Templates
The Templates tab manages quiz templates: reusable sets of quiz settings that can be applied to any quiz in one click. Review your saved templates, delete ones you no longer need, and choose a default template for new quizzes. See Quiz Templates for details.
Data Tools
The Data Tools tab provides maintenance tools for quiz data, starting with progress reset. Remove quiz attempts by student, by quiz, or both, with a preview of exactly what will be removed and a typed confirmation before anything is deleted. See Data Tools for details.
Status
The Status tab displays diagnostic information about your WordPress site in a two-column layout for easy reading. This includes server configuration, plugin versions, database status, and other details that can help identify potential issues. If database issues are detected, you will see a tool available that will try to correct them.
Use the Copy System Status button to copy all diagnostic details to your clipboard. This makes it easy to paste the information into a support request if you ever need assistance.
Advanced Settings
Use the Advanced tab to enable or disable the option to remove all plugin records and tables when you uninstall and delete the plugin. Note that data removed in this way cannot be recovered.
