Question version history lets you track changes to questions over time and restore previous versions if needed. Every time a question is saved, the previous version is preserved, creating a complete revision history.
Enable question history, visit PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Audit Log, then switch on Enable Question Version History near the bottom of the page.
Viewing Question History
When editing an existing question, you’ll see a History tab in the Question Editor. This tab shows all previous versions of the question in reverse chronological order (newest first).
Each revision entry displays:
- Version number
- Date and time of the change
- Who made the change
- A preview of what changed (stem, answers, feedback, or settings)
Click on any revision to see the full details of what the question looked like at that point in time.
Comparing Versions
Select a previous version to compare it side-by-side with the current version. Differences are highlighted so you can quickly identify what changed between versions. This is useful for reviewing edits made by other team members or understanding how a question evolved over time.
Restoring a Previous Version
If you need to revert a question to an earlier state:
- Open the question in the Question Editor.
- Go to the History tab.
- Find the version you want to restore.
- Click Restore.
Restoring creates a new version with the content from the selected revision. Your current version isn’t lost—it becomes part of the history, so you can always restore back to it if needed.
Recovering Deleted Questions
When a question is deleted, a snapshot is preserved in the audit log. Navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Reports and click the Deleted Questions card to see questions that have been removed.
From this report you can:
- View the question content as it existed when deleted
- Restore the question, recreating it with all its original content
- Permanently delete the record if you’re certain you won’t need it
Administrators can see all deleted questions. Teachers can only see questions they originally authored.
Retention Settings
Version history can accumulate significant data over time. In the Audit Log settings tab, you can configure:
- Enable/Disable: Turn version history tracking on or off
- Retention Period: Automatically remove old revisions after a set number of days (default: 365 days, set to 0 for indefinite retention)
- Purge All: Manually delete all non-current revisions to reclaim database space
The current version of each question is never deleted by retention cleanup—only historical revisions are affected.
