The Pre/Post Analysis report measures learning gain by comparing student performance across two quizzes or two attempts. It aggregates results across all students to show score improvements, category-level changes, and the distribution of improvement across your class.

This report is also available on the Reports screen of the front-end Teacher Dashboard, with the same filters, data, and CSV export.

Accessing the Report

Navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Reports and click the Pre/Post Analysis card. The report offers three comparison modes, selected using the tabs at the top of the page.

Teachers see data only from students in their managed groups. Administrators see data from all students.

Comparison Modes

Linked Pairs

Compare quizzes that are already linked as pre-test and post-test pairs. Select a pair from the dropdown to see the comparison. This is the most common mode when you’ve set up pre/post test linking in the quiz editor.

Only pairs where at least one visible student has completed both quizzes appear in the dropdown.

Compare Quizzes

Select any two published quizzes for an ad-hoc comparison. This mode doesn’t require a pre-existing link between the quizzes. The report finds students who completed both quizzes and compares their scores. This is useful for comparing performance across different topics or comparing a practice quiz against a final assessment.

Compare Attempts

Select a single quiz and choose two attempt numbers to compare (for example, Attempt 1 vs. Attempt 3). This mode is useful for quizzes that allow retakes, letting you measure how much students improve through repetition without needing a separate pre-test quiz.

Understanding the Data

Summary Statistics

The summary section shows:

• Students Completed — The number of students who completed both quizzes or both attempt numbers.
• Average Score A — The mean score for the first quiz or earlier attempt.
• Average Score B — The mean score for the second quiz or later attempt.
• Average Improvement — The mean percentage point change between Score A and Score B.

Score Comparison Chart

A grouped bar chart showing each student’s Score A and Score B side by side. This makes it easy to spot which students improved the most and which may need additional support.

Improvement Distribution

A doughnut chart that groups students by how much they improved:

• Declined — Score decreased (shown in red)
• No Change — Score stayed the same (shown in gray)
• +1 to +10% — Small improvement
• +11 to +20% — Moderate improvement
• +21 to +30% — Significant improvement
• +31% or more — Major improvement

This chart answers the question “What percentage of my class improved?” which is often more useful than looking at individual scores.

Category Comparison

A grouped bar chart showing average scores per question category for both quizzes. Only categories that appear in both quizzes are included. This section helps you identify which topics saw the most improvement and which may need further instruction.

Student Details Table

A table listing each student with their Score A, Score B, and improvement percentage.

Tips

• For the most meaningful pre/post comparisons, use quizzes that cover similar content and difficulty levels. A very easy pre-test paired with a very hard post-test will show misleading results.
• The Compare Attempts mode works well for skills-based quizzes where repetition builds mastery, such as math drills or vocabulary tests.
