If your site runs LearnDash, you probably already maintain groups there. LearnDash Groups Mode lets the Educator add-on use those groups directly as its group source, so there is one roster to maintain instead of two. LearnDash Group Leaders act as instructors for the groups they administer, and quiz assignments target LearnDash groups.
Requirements
- PressPrimer Quiz (free) 3.0.0 or higher
- PressPrimer Quiz – Educator 3.0.0 or higher
- LearnDash installed and active
Switching the Group Source
- Navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Educator.
- In the Group source section, choose LearnDash groups and confirm the switch. Note that this section will only appear if LearnDash is active.
The switch takes effect immediately and can be reversed at any time. The default source, PressPrimer groups, is the group system described in Managing Groups.
What Changes in LearnDash Mode
Group Leaders Become Instructors
LearnDash Group Leaders can manage assignments for the groups they administer, both in /wp-admin/ and on the front-end teacher dashboard. Leaders of parent groups in a LearnDash group hierarchy cover their child groups, following LearnDash’s own rules. No roles or capabilities are edited to make this work, so switching back instantly reverts it.
Membership Is Read Live from LearnDash
PressPrimer never copies or syncs LearnDash rosters. Membership is read directly from LearnDash at the moment it matters, such as when a student starts an assigned quiz or when reminder emails are sent. Add or remove someone from a LearnDash group and their assignments follow automatically, with no delay and nothing to keep in sync.
Group Management Defers to LearnDash
In LearnDash mode, group rosters are read-only in PressPrimer. The Groups screens show your LearnDash groups and their members, with a Manage in LearnDash link for membership changes. This keeps LearnDash as the single source of truth.
Assignments Target LearnDash Groups
New assignments are made to LearnDash groups. Everything else about assignments works as described in Assigning Quizzes to Groups: due dates, grace periods, reminder emails, and completion tracking.
Shared Banks Across Co-Leaders
Question bank sharing extends to co-leaders in LearnDash mode. Leaders of the same LearnDash group can use each other’s shared banks, the same way co-teachers of a PressPrimer group can. See Sharing Question Banks.
Switching Back
Switching back to PressPrimer groups is non-destructive. Assignments made to LearnDash groups go dormant: they are kept, not deleted, and they stop applying while LearnDash mode is off. PressPrimer group management is re-enabled, and any assignments to PressPrimer groups from before the switch resume. Switch to LearnDash groups again and the dormant assignments come back to life.
If LearnDash is deactivated while LearnDash mode is selected, group features temporarily fall back to PressPrimer groups. Reactivate LearnDash to restore LearnDash mode; nothing needs to be reconfigured.
Notes
- Administrators always have full scope in both modes.
- PressPrimer never writes to LearnDash groups. All membership changes happen in LearnDash.
