Email Campaigns sends basic announcement emails to your quiz contacts, your group members, or (for administrators) WordPress users by role. You will find it under PressPrimer Quiz > Campaigns.
It is worth being clear up front about what Campaigns is not: it is not an email service provider. There are no sequences, no open or click analytics, no segments, and no per-recipient delivery log. If you need serious volume or marketing automation, move your list to a real platform: export the CSV from Contacts, connect WP Fusion, or wire up Uncanny Automator. Campaigns is for the announcement you need to send today: an exam date change, a new practice quiz, a term wrap-up.

Before You Can Send: Sender Identification
Under PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Educator, the Sender Identification section has four required fields: From name, From email, Organization name, and a Physical mailing address. Sending stays disabled until all four are set, and the organization name and mailing address render in the footer of every campaign email.

This is not busywork: email identification laws such as CAN-SPAM and CASL require senders to identify themselves in commercial email, and complete identification also helps deliverability. One practical tip: use a From address on your own site’s domain so SPF and DKIM authentication line up. The settings screen warns you about a mismatched domain but does not block it.
Audiences
- Opted-in contacts: Guests whose latest consent event is opted in. Teachers reach the contacts captured by their own quizzes; administrators reach all of them.
- Groups: Members of groups you manage. Native PressPrimer groups and LearnDash groups (in LearnDash Groups Mode) both work.
- Users by role: Available to administrators only.
If the same address appears in more than one selected audience, it gets one email. Unsubscribed addresses are excluded automatically.
How Sending Works
- The recipient list is locked in when you confirm the send, and sending cannot be undone.
- Delivery goes out in batches (50 emails every 5 minutes by default) through your site’s normal email sending, which protects both your server and your sender reputation.
- Every address is re-checked at send time, so an unsubscribe that arrives mid-campaign still takes effect for the batches that have not gone out yet.
- The campaign record keeps counts (sent, failed, and suppressed), not per-recipient logs.
- Cancelling a campaign stops it at the next batch.
How Unsubscribe Works
Every campaign email, to every audience type, carries a personal unsubscribe link in the footer plus the one-click unsubscribe headers that modern mail apps surface (such as Gmail’s Unsubscribe button). Assignment reminder emails are transactional and do not carry unsubscribe; stopping those means leaving the group or assignment.
Clicking the link instantly adds the address to the suppression list and shows a plain confirmation page. No login or account is needed. Suppression stops future campaign sends to that address, including campaigns already in progress. The contact’s data itself is untouched; permanent deletion is a separate action described in Contacts.
A few things site owners should know:
- You cannot un-suppress an address from the admin. An opt-out stands unless the person opts back in themselves.
- The unsubscribe page never reveals whether an address was in your list, and the links use signed tokens, so they cannot be forged or guessed.
- Suppression survives erasure in a privacy-safe form, so an erased address cannot be accidentally re-mailed by a later campaign.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my campaign sending slowly? Batching is deliberate; it protects your site and your sender reputation. Developers can adjust the batch size and interval with a filter.
Why did some recipients count as suppressed? They unsubscribed, possibly mid-campaign. Addresses are re-checked at send time, so an unsubscribe between batches moves the remaining send for that address into the suppressed count.
A student says they unsubscribed but still got an email. A batch that was already queued may have gone out around the same moment they clicked. Every batch after their unsubscribe will exclude them; check the campaign’s suppressed count.
Can I remove someone from the suppression list? No, by design. See above: opt-outs are reversed by the person, not the site.
Can I see who opened it? No. Campaigns keeps counts, not tracking. If open and click analytics matter to you, that is the signal to move your list to a dedicated email platform.
