The Contacts list offers a single, deduplicated record of every guest email your quizzes have captured. You will find it under PressPrimer Quiz > Contacts.
Each contact shows the email, name, consent state and consent date, when the address was first and last captured, how many attempts it is attached to, and the source quizzes it came from. Contacts that have unsubscribed from campaign emails carry a Suppressed indicator.
Consent States, Explained
- Opted in: The visitor checked the marketing consent box on their most recent consent event.
- Declined: They were asked and said no.
- Not asked: The address was captured before consent capture was enabled, or consent is turned off on your site.
When the same address appears on multiple attempts, the most recent consent event wins. A visitor who declined last month and opted in yesterday shows as Opted in; one who opted in and later declined shows as Declined.
Who Sees Which Contacts
Teachers see the contacts captured by quizzes they own. Administrators see everything. This matches how quiz and report visibility works elsewhere in the plugin.
Exporting
The Export CSV button exports the contacts matching your current filters, not just the rows visible on the page. Filter to opted-in contacts first if the export is headed to a mailing tool. The files open safely in Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets; encoding and formula protection are handled for you.
Unsubscribe vs. Erase: Two Very Different Actions
Each contact row offers two actions, and they do very different things:
- Unsubscribe stops campaign emails to the address but keeps all data. Use it when someone asks to stop receiving campaigns. The contact stays in the list with a Suppressed indicator.
- Erase is permanent deletion through the plugin’s privacy eraser. The attempt data carrying the address is scrubbed everywhere, and the row disappears from Contacts and from reports. It cannot be undone.
There is deliberately no “re-subscribe” button. Reversing someone’s opt-out is a consent decision the visitor makes, not the site; if they want campaign emails again, they can opt in themselves the next time they take a quiz.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a contact I erased gone from my reports? Because erasure is everywhere, by design. Erase runs the same privacy eraser as a WordPress personal data request, so the address is removed from every attempt record, not just from the Contacts list.
Why can’t I edit a contact’s email or name? The list mirrors what your quizzes actually captured; it is a record, not a CRM. If a visitor mistyped their email, the accurate fix is a fresh capture on their next attempt.
Can I import contacts? No. The Contacts list shows what your quizzes captured. For managing lists from other sources, use a mailing platform, and see Email Campaigns for how the plugin’s own sending fits in.
