Assignment reminder emails help ensure students complete their assigned quizzes before the deadline. When enabled, the system automatically sends reminder emails to students who haven’t completed an assignment as the due date approaches.

How Reminders Work

Reminders are configured per assignment. You set the reminder windows (for example, 3 days before and 1 day before the due date), and the system handles everything else automatically:

• Reminders only go to students who haven’t completed the assignment
• Each reminder trigger fires once per student (no duplicate emails)
• The reminder system runs daily via WordPress cron

Enabling Reminders for an Assignment

To enable reminder emails for an assignment:

1. Navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Groups and select a group.
2. Click the Assignments tab.
3. Create a new assignment or edit an existing one.
4. Ensure a Due Date is set (reminders require a deadline).
5. Toggle Enable Reminder Emails to on.
6. Add reminder triggers by clicking Add Reminder and selecting the number of days before the due date.
7. Save the assignment.

Common reminder configurations include a 3-day and 1-day reminder, or a single reminder 1 day before the deadline.

Reminders can also be configured when creating or editing an assignment from the front-end Teacher Dashboard, including sending a test reminder.

Reminder emails are transactional: they relate to an assignment the student already has, so they deliberately carry no unsubscribe link. Stopping reminders means completing the assignment or leaving the group. This is different from campaign emails, which always include unsubscribe; see Email Campaigns.

Customizing the Reminder Email

The reminder email template is fully customizable. To configure it:

1. Navigate to PressPrimer Quiz > Settings > Email.
2. Scroll to the Assignment Reminders section.
3. Edit the Subject and Body templates.
4. Use the Send Test Email button to preview your changes.

Available Tokens

The following tokens can be used in reminder email templates:

{due_timing}	Relative timing (e.g., “due tomorrow”, “due in 3 days”)

Sending a Test Reminder

You can send a test reminder email to yourself to preview exactly what students will receive:

1. Open an assignment that has reminders enabled.
2. Click the Send Test Reminder button.
3. Check your email for the preview.

The test email uses real assignment data but is sent to you (the teacher or admin) rather than students.

How Reminder Timing Works

Reminders use a window-based system that accounts for the due date’s time, not just the date:

• A 1-day reminder fires approximately 24 hours before the due time
• A 3-day reminder fires approximately 72 hours before the due time

Times are approximate, as the notification system does depend on cron activity.

Troubleshooting

• Reminders not sending: Ensure WordPress cron is running. Some hosts disable WP-Cron and require a server-level cron job.
• Student didn’t receive email: Check that the student has a valid email address and hasn’t already completed the assignment.
• Duplicate emails: This shouldn’t happen. Each trigger maintains its own deduplication state. If you’re seeing duplicates, check that you don’t have multiple reminder triggers set for the same day count.
