Issuer Members and Roles

Members are the site users who work on behalf of an issuer: the department head who owns its templates, the registrar who awards them, the dean whose name goes on them. Membership is separate from WordPress roles. It grants rights inside PressPrimer Certificate for one issuer only, and site administrators can do everything for every issuer without being members of any.

The Three Roles

  • Owner: manages the issuer, its members, its templates, and awarding. Owners can edit the issuer’s details and branding, add and remove members, assign templates to the issuer, and award from them.
  • Issuer: manages and awards from the issuer’s templates. Issuers can design, edit, and award, but cannot change the organization itself, its members, or which templates belong to it.

Creating issuers is reserved for site administrators. No membership role can do it.

Adding and Managing Members

Open the issuer from Certificates > Issuers and find the Members section. Search for a user, choose a role, and click Add Member. The member must already have a WordPress account on the site. Change a member’s role from the Role dropdown in the list, or click Remove to end every role they hold with this issuer. A user can be a member of several issuers with a different role in each.

What Members See

A member who is not a site administrator sees a scoped version of the plugin:

  • The Issuers page lists only the issuers they belong to.
  • The Templates list and the designer show only their issuers’ templates. Site templates are not visible to them.
  • Every award path (manual, bulk, retroactive, and triggers on their templates) is limited to those templates. A member of one issuer cannot award another issuer’s template, even by typing its address.
  • Owners can move templates between issuers they own. Issuers cannot move templates at all.

Because membership only grants rights within the plugin, the user still needs a WordPress role that lets them into the admin at all. A role with basic dashboard access is enough; the issuer membership supplies the certificate rights on top of it.
