Credential Directory

The credential directory is a public, searchable list of people who hold a listed credential. An employer who has a candidate’s name but no credential ID can check whether they hold the certification they claim.

What Is Shown, and What Never Is

A directory entry shows the holder’s name, the credential’s name, the issuer, the year it was earned, and a Verify link. Nothing else is ever shown: no email address, no credential ID, no exact dates, no certificate image. The verification page behind the link is the same one anyone with the link can already reach.

A few protections are built in. The site-wide directory requires a name search; it cannot be browsed as one long list. Searches are rate limited, so scripted attempts to harvest names are throttled. And the “no results” message says plainly that absence from the directory does not mean a credential is invalid, and points the visitor to the verification page for a specific certificate.

Who Decides What Is Listed

Your staff do. Recipients do not manage their own directory listing, so the site owner is responsible for telling recipients about the directory and for handling requests to be unlisted. The controls are a site policy plus a per-certificate setting.

The Site Policy

Navigate to Certificates > Settings > Directory. The List certificates by default setting has two positions:

  • Off (the default): only certificates you individually mark as listed appear. Nothing is public until someone on your team says so.
  • On: every certificate appears unless you unlist it individually. The settings page asks you to tell your recipients their achievements are listed publicly and that they can ask you to unlist them. Do that before turning this on.

Listing or Unlisting One Certificate

The Certificates screen (Certificates > Certificates) has a Directory column showing each certificate as Site default, Listed, or Unlisted. Click the value to change it. To handle an unlisting request, find the certificate (search by the recipient’s name), click the Directory value, and set it to Unlisted; it leaves the directory immediately. Only valid certificates ever appear: expired and revoked ones are left out regardless of this setting.

Adding the Directory to a Page

Add the Credential Directory block, or place the shortcode:

[ppcert_school_directory]

Both render the same search form and results, and both work without JavaScript. Three optional settings narrow the scope:

  • issuer (an issuer slug): limits the directory to one issuer. A scoped directory can be browsed without searching, since it is already narrowed.
  • program (a program page address): limits it to one published program.
  • per_page (a number, default 10): results per page. The block calls this Results per page.

For example, a page listing everyone certified by one department:

[ppcert_school_directory issuer="nursing-faculty" per_page="25"]
