Groups allow you to organize students into classes, cohorts, or teams. Once students are in a group, you can assign assignments to the entire group with shared schedules and track submission status across all members.
If PressPrimer Quiz Educator is also installed, groups are shared between both plugins. The same group can be used for both quizzes and assignments.
If your site runs LearnDash, you can skip building groups here entirely and use your existing LearnDash Groups as the group source instead. See LearnDash Groups Mode. The rest of this article describes the default PressPrimer group system.
Creating a Group
- Navigate to Assignments > Groups in /wp-admin/. The Educator add-on must be active to see this menu item.
- Click Add New at the top of the page.
- Enter a Group Name. Choose something descriptive like “Fall 2026 Biology 101” or “Sales Team Onboarding”.
- Optionally, enter a Description to provide more context about the group’s purpose.
- Click Create Group.
After creating a group, you’ll be taken to the group detail page where you can add members and distribute assignments.
Editing a Group
- Navigate to Assignments > Groups.
- Find the group you want to edit in the list.
- Hover over the group name and click Edit.
- Make your changes and click Update Group.
Deleting a Group
To delete a group:
- Navigate to Assignments > Groups.
- Hover over the group name and click Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Important: Deleting a group removes all member associations and assignment distributions for that group. Submission data from group members is preserved, but will no longer be associated with the deleted group.
Group Ownership
The user who creates a group becomes its owner. Group owners can:
- Edit group details (name, description)
- Add and remove members
- Change member roles
- Distribute assignments to the group
- View submission status for the group’s members
- Delete the group
Administrators can manage all groups regardless of ownership. Teachers can only see and manage groups they own.
